Our verdict
Claude Code is a strong pick when you want an agent that works inside a real repo, runs commands and handles git end to end. It needs a paid Claude plan or API billing and heavy users on Pro will likely hit session limits and need Max at $100 or $200 a month.
Pros
- Works in terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, desktop app, browser and Slack
- Handles git itself: branches, commits and pull requests
- Extend with CLAUDE.md, skills, hooks, MCP and subagents
Cons
- Not included in the Free Claude plan; starts at $20/mo
- Pro usage is capped per 5-hour session; more needs Max 5x ($100) or Max 20x ($200)
- Enterprise adds usage at API rates on top of the $20 seat
