Short answer: To automate your social media with AI agents, write a brand brief once, let a tool like SocialBee, Predis.ai or Blaze turn it into a month of posts, schedule them through an approval queue, hand routine DMs to an agent like Meta Business Agent and get a weekly AI report. Keep a human on approvals, complaints and anything that needs judgment. Most small businesses can run this for $15 to $80 a month.

How to automate your social media with AI: 6 steps
1. Write a brand brief once
Every good automation starts here. In one page, write your audience, 3 to 5 content pillars, your tone, words you never use, your posting goals and 5 example posts you love. Save it where your AI can reuse it, like a Project in ChatGPT or Claude or the brand settings in your social tool.
2. Pick your setup
There are three ways to do this. Pick based on how much control you want.
| Setup | Best for | Tools | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-in-one autopilot | Small businesses that want it done for them | SocialBee, Predis.ai, Blaze, Ocoya | $24 to $79/mo |
| Scheduler plus AI writer | Creators and teams who write their own angle | Buffer, Later, Typefully, FeedHive | $5 to $19/mo |
| Build your own agent | Teams with odd workflows or many tools | Zapier Agents, Make, n8n | Free to $33/mo |
Our pick for most small businesses is SocialBee. Its AI Copilot builds a full strategy with ready-to-use posts from your brief, on every plan from $29 a month. Read our full SocialBee review.
3. Generate a month of posts
Feed the brief to your tool and ask for 4 weeks of posts across your pillars. Then turn on repurposing: connect your blog’s RSS feed so every new article becomes 3 to 5 social posts automatically. SocialBee, Publer and Ocoya all do this.
Good prompt: “Using my brand brief, write 12 LinkedIn posts and 20 Instagram captions for next month. Mix tips, behind-the-scenes and one offer a week. No hashtags in LinkedIn posts. Flag any claim I need to check.”
4. Schedule through an approval queue
Let the AI fill the queue, but don’t let it publish unseen. Set posts to “needs approval” and spend 15 minutes a week reviewing. Use these posting targets from Buffer’s 2026 data:
| Platform | Posts per week |
|---|---|
| 3 to 5 | |
| TikTok | 2 to 5 |
| 2 to 5 | |
| 7 to 14 | |
| X | 21 to 28 |
5. Hand routine DMs to an agent
Most DMs are the same few questions: hours, prices, availability and “is this in stock?” An agent can answer those in seconds.
- Meta Business Agent answers questions, recommends products, books appointments and qualifies leads on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. It is free for now, with paid plans coming.
- Vista Social has DM automations from $99 a month, with lead capture on higher plans.
- Hootsuite sells an AI chatbot that it says can automate up to 80% of message replies.
Set clear handoff rules: anything angry, legal, medical or about a refund goes to a person.
6. Get a weekly AI report
Ask an agent to send you a short report every Monday: top posts, what to repeat and what to drop. Sprout Social’s Trellis agent does this inside Sprout. With ChatGPT or Claude, set a scheduled task that reads your exported analytics and writes the summary.

Rules to know before you automate
- Label realistic AI media. Meta requires you to use its “AI info” label on photorealistic video or realistic audio that was made or changed with AI. YouTube requires you to disclose realistic altered or synthetic content.
- No fake reviews or testimonials. The FTC rule bans AI-generated fake reviews and testimonials, and buying fake followers or views. Fines can top $50,000 per violation.
- Disclose paid partnerships. Put “#ad” or “Paid partnership” at the start of the post, not buried in hashtags.
- Don’t run engagement bots on LinkedIn. LinkedIn’s terms ban bots and browser extensions that auto-like, auto-comment or auto-share. Scheduling posts through approved tools is fine.
- X charges for API posting. X now bills per use, about $0.015 per post ($0.20 if it has a link). Your scheduler usually covers this.
What not to automate
- Replies to complaints or bad reviews
- Anything during a crisis or breaking news
- Comments on other people’s posts
- Claims about health, money or results you haven’t checked
The point is to save time, not to sound like a bot. In HubSpot’s 2026 State of Marketing report, about a third of marketers said AI saves them 10 to 14 hours a week. Spend some of that time talking to real customers. Picking between general AI assistants? Read ChatGPT vs Claude for marketing.
FAQ
Can AI fully run my social media?
AI can plan, write, design, schedule and post on its own, and answer routine DMs. Keep a person on approvals, complaints and anything that needs judgment, since mistakes in public are costly.
What is the best AI agent for social media automation?
For most small businesses, SocialBee is the best all-round pick because its AI Copilot builds a strategy and posts from a brief from $29 a month. Predis.ai and Blaze are strong autopilot options, and Buffer is the cheapest scheduler.
How much does it cost to automate social media with AI?
Most small businesses pay $15 to $80 a month. Schedulers with AI writing start at $5 per channel, autopilot tools run $24 to $79, and team suites like Hootsuite and Sprout Social start near $79 to $99 per user.
Do I have to label AI-generated social media posts?
On Meta, you must label photorealistic video or realistic audio made or changed with AI. On YouTube, you must disclose realistic synthetic content. AI-written captions and simple edits generally don’t need a label.
Can ChatGPT or Claude post to social media for me?
Not directly. They write and plan well, and they can post through connected tools like Zapier, Metricool, Ocoya or Typefully. Use a scheduler for the actual posting.
Is it against the rules to automate LinkedIn?
Scheduling posts through approved tools is fine. LinkedIn bans bots and browser extensions that automatically like, comment or share, so don’t automate engagement there.
