What is OpenAI Dots (ChatGPT dots)?
For setup steps, rules and every plan, see our full OpenAI Dots guide.
A dot is an always-on agent inside ChatGPT. OpenAI says dots “take on ongoing work and keep making progress between conversations.” You give it a goal, connect the apps it needs and set what it can do on its own. It then works in its own cloud computer and browser, even when you’re not in ChatGPT.
- Runs on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI’s top model.
- Reaches 4,000+ apps through ChatGPT plugins.
- Looks through your connected apps for ways to help (read-only while you’re away).
- Takes messages in Slack and Microsoft Teams, and keeps context across them.
- Handles reminders and recurring checks in a Scheduled section.
- Can’t make phone calls, doesn’t get its own email address and can’t be set up on mobile yet.
- Isn’t the same as ChatGPT Work, which handles one-off jobs like booking appointments with ChatGPT.
What is Meta Muse?
“Muse” covers a few Meta products, which is why searches get confusing:
- Muse is the personal AI agent most people mean. It launched September 8, 2026, runs in its own secure cloud computer and can send email, fill in forms, shop and keep working after you close the app. Compare it with other AI personal assistants.
- Muse for Small Business launched September 29, 2026. This is the version for marketers. It connects to Facebook Pages, Meta ad accounts and Instagram professional analytics.
- Muse Spark is the model behind Muse and Meta AI.
- Muse Image is Meta’s image model. Meta has said it will power image generation in Advantage+ creative for ads.
Which one is better for marketing?
Where Meta Muse wins
- Meta ads and social: Muse for Small Business reads your ad accounts, Pages and Instagram analytics directly. Meta’s own example prompts include reviewing ad and content performance, drafting a campaign and checking trends.
- Price: it’s free to start. Paid plans add more usage. TechCrunch reported Power at $20 a month and Maximum at $100, though Meta hasn’t published prices.
- E-commerce: connectors for Shopify, Klaviyo and Canva cover a typical small online store.
- Ideas tab: it suggests things to do without being asked.
Where OpenAI Dots wins
- Bigger tool stack: 4,000+ apps beats Muse’s connector list if you use HubSpot, Google tools or niche marketing software.
- Team work: message your dot in Slack or Teams. OpenAI’s examples include revising launch materials and creative drafts when scope changes, and turning interviews into show notes and social posts.
- Availability: Business Premium works in every ChatGPT region. Muse is only in the US and Canada.
- Hand-offs to coding: a dot can start Codex tasks, useful for landing page or tracking fixes.
Pricing for marketers
| Plan | Price | Agent included |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Muse (free) | $0 | Muse with usage limits |
| Muse for Small Business | Free to start; paid plans not published | Muse with Meta and business connectors |
| ChatGPT Pro 100 | $100/mo | 1 dot |
| ChatGPT Pro 200 / 500 | $200 or $500/mo | 1 dot, more usage |
| ChatGPT Business Premium | $100/seat/mo yearly ($125 monthly), 2 seats minimum | 1 dot |
| ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Business Standard | $0 to $25 | No dot |
OpenAI says your first dot is included, and dot conversations don’t count toward your ChatGPT limits, though tasks it runs in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. Extra dots are planned, with no prices yet.
Privacy and control
- Dots: you choose rules like “take action without asking,” “ask before taking action” or “hand off to you.” Sensitive tasks, like password changes, always stay with you. Business plans aren’t used for training by default. Disconnecting an app doesn’t delete what the dot learned from it, so you need to reset the dot for that.
- Muse: a separate “Sentinel” agent checks anything Muse sends to the internet. Muse can’t see your passwords or payment methods, asks before sending email or buying and keeps an audit trail. Meta says Muse doesn’t share your conversations with its ad systems, and you can opt out of training.
Both companies say their agents can make mistakes. Keep approvals on for anything that publishes, spends or emails customers.
